At home body wraps…myth or does it actually work?


So I found this pin on Pinterest…

Aaannnd…I was curious.  So I went ahead and did it just for shits and giggles.  Besides…maybe it works…right?

“At home bodywrap. Lose inches in an hour. Mix vitamin E oil and farewell cellulite and rub where u wanna lose inches. Wrap tight with plastic wrap. Wrap up in warm blankets and sit for one hour. You will sweat and release toxins. Drink lots of water after.  Hhmmmm….”

So before measurements:

Biceps: R:12″   L: 12″
Waist: 30″
Hips: 36″
Thighs: R: 22″  L: 22″

After measurements:

Biceps: R:12″   L: 12″
Waist: 30″
Hips: 36″
Thighs: R: 22″  L: 22″
 

Aaaaaannd…what a waste of time.

As you can clearly see I lost no inches in an hour.  Not only was it difficult to wrap myself up, the plastic wrap slid up and down and all over.

So in closing…don’t bother.  If you want to get a body wrap, go to a reputable salon and pay for it.

    1. No not really. I wore big sweats and turned the air conditoner off, but not a lot of sweat. Just seriously uncomfortable. Ah well…now I know! :)

  1. I actually tried this tonite. Granted I’ve never been huge but have a lot of lose skin around my stomach. Thank you two sweet csection boys 15 1/2 months apart. My youngest almost 5 months. So I tried this. Surprisingly it helped! Granted I need to tone a lot but it gave me a head start. I didn’t sit for an hour (who can with two kids?!) so I just put it on, wrapped up with sweatshirts and heavy socks and played with the boys! :) I didn’t actually do my measurements because I wasn’t expecting it to work (to easy right??!) but I can tell a difference just by looking. My tummy flap from my csection and above my scar isn’t as big and bulgy and the rest of me is flatter. Maybe try it again? Don’t waist your time by sitting get up, do things, just make sure you’re wrapped up :)

    1. The reason it doesn’t work is because all it does it pull the water out of your skin…which will make you appear thinner. But as soon as you drink any water, or caffeine beverage it WILL go right back there. I think these products are total crap. Any product that advertises to “instantly” slim you is fake and a scam. In order to get “thin”…women all over are falling for these scams because they want instant gratification, and results. I think that it is such a waste of time. Why spend 20 minutes doing a wrap when you could spend 20 minutes running, doing push ups, sit ups…or walking? I have spent months putting in the time, and I have gotten he results that I wanted because I put in the effort…stepping off my soap box now.

  2. I tried it after watching a video of the “proper way” to do it and it worked for me.. Didn’t take any measurements either because I was just doing kind of a trial run.. U really have to do it a certain way and depending on how you do it, it is not very messy either! All I can say is my muffin top definitely shrunk and its been staying gone too.. So skeptics don’t give up. Keep researching =) its been working for me!!!

    1. I am sure that it helps, however wraps, and pills are not a replacement for healthy eating and exercise. The wraps pull the water from your skin, and are great for quick fixes for special occasions like Fitness Competitions, weddings…vacation. But I would never, ever, ever recommend these scams as a way to lose weight, because they are very expensive and you have to continue to use them forever. If you want to lose water weight, throw on some sweats and go work out! Hit a hot yoga class, or amazingly enough…drink more water!

      1. If you actually read the post, the very first line states “I found this on PINTEREST”. I would not waste my time on a video.

      2. Again, this method only pulls the water out of your body. It does not help you lose fat, which is why I think it’s a crock. after a year of a strict diet and hours in the gym, I lost fat inches, not water inches which then come right back when you rehydrate your body. It’s great for competition events, or special occasions, but not as a method for weight loss. In a society of instant gratification, I can see why it’s so popular. But wraps are not, not, not a healthy way to maintain or lose weight. Only a healthy diet and regular exercise can do that.
